Saturday December 12th, Prototype welcomes back the DROID BEHAVIOR / Droid Recordings event series PRIME for their final collaboration of 2015. The Westcoast’s undisputed leading force in techno has existed since 2002 as a record label, event production group and artist collective. Their success has taken them across the globe, with showcases in Amsterdam, Detroit, NYC, Barcelona, London and the almighty Berghain / Panorama Bar. This event is also in association with Point Blank Music School.
We welcome back past Droid Behavior guest Ben Sims. With his technically impressive DJ sets and innovative productions, U.K.’s Ben Sims is a favorite among fans. Although he began his career playing hip-hop, acid, and house he later applied battle dj techniques to his mix sets for impressive 3 deck results of high impact. HIs hardgroove approach revolutionized tribal style and made a name for himself as a top producer and performer which lead to his relentless tour schedule over the last decade plus. In 2011 he continued the legacy with his album Smoke & Mirrors on Adam Beyer’s Drumcode label to critical acclaim. Already a regular featured DJ at their clubs and events, Sims partnered with the fabriclondon family in 2013 for the mix CD Fabric 73. With over 20 years experience under his belt, Ben Sims has a well-deserved reputation as one of the world’s most in-demand and leading techno DJs – a tight, energetic mixer who skillfully weaves together his own distinctive blend of tough yet funky hardgrooves, often using three-deck wizardry and plenty of dexterity.
Also returning to Prime is Mike Parker. For the last 2 decades has perfected his unique interpretation of techno music. His abstractions of sound and texture are now instantly recognizable to contemporary audiences. His long running series of 12†records on the Geophone imprint established his sonic persona and other labels took notice; Prologue Music, Mote-Evolver, Semantica Records, Time To Express and Spectral Sound, to name a few. Parker’s recorded discography includes a vast array of EPs and 2 full length albums; the latest being “Lustrations†on Prologue. When he is not twisting analogue frequencies in the studio and presenting deep tripped mix sets he lectures fine art at Daemen College in New York.
