D-Node 097: Santiago Salazar – Lucid Mix

Santiago Salazar AKA DJ S2 has been DJing in LA since the early 90s. He took some time away from the city to join Detroit’s legendary Underground Resistance crew. Since his return to the LA scene he’s put out a number of 12-inch releases, most notably with Estaban Adame as Ican for Planet E and Ican Productions. Along with John Mendez (Silent Servant, Jasper) he runs Historia y Violencia, which just put out a release by Raiz (yes, Acid Circus’ new moniker). Santiago contributed this mix to the D-Node podcast. Tracklist below.

We asked Santiago to pick five tracks out of the mix and share something about them.

Raiz – Raiz(Ciencia Ficcion Edicion) – Historia y Violencia:

Puro L.A. techno right here. The Vargas brothers are known for their Acid Circus output, but with Raiz, they dive deeper and darker. Silent Servant’s edit (Ciencia Ficcion Edicion) is not that much different from the original, but has his signature Sandwell District sound that works well on big sound systems.

Disco Nihilist – Gallop – Construction Paper:

Disco Nihilist rides in on his hardware-horse to remind us that out-board gear still sounds good on vinyl. Using such gear as the 707, DX100 and Tascam-Cassette 4 track recorder, this EP offers 4 tracks of pure deepness.

DJ Qu – Runwitit – Underground Quality:

Word in the underground is that DJ Qu was or is still a house dancer. It’s no wonder why when I hear his music, I just wanna dance. “Runwitit” builds you up for the first 3min’s with Toms and Crashes, then Qu adds some Steel Drums to take you “All Across the Floor”.

Maurizio – M4 – Maurizio:

This is a deephousedubtechno gem. Ever since I first purchased the vinyl back in 1995, it has never left my crate. Yes, that’s right…. I said CRATE! This style of music is credited to Maurizio/Basic Channel, but if you take a listen to M500 – Starlight on Metroplex, I think you’ll hear that Juan Atkins had a huge part….

Newworldaquarium – The Force(Ame Remix) – NWAQ:

One of the best remixes Ame has done yet. Taken from NWA’s “The Dead Bears” album, Ame takes the original and transforms it to a dancers delight. I love how Ame layers the track with many sounds, along with the snares in and out of the track.
