Saturday September 26th, Prototype welcomes back the DROID BEHAVIOR / Droid Recordings event series PRIME to Lot 613. The Westcoast’s undisputed leading force in techno, their label and subsequent events have existed since 2002, taking them across the globe, with showcases in Amsterdam, Detroit, NYC and Berlin’s infamous Berghain.
With them, they bring one of the stalwarts of the global scene, Marcel Dettmann. Known for his residency at the infamous Berghain club in Berlin, his powerful sound embodies contemporary techno through his DJ sets, productions, and label releases. A figure that hardly needs introduction at this point, his existence, along with the other Ostgut residents, has helped spread awareness and solidify the genre’s place among today’s dance music. With pure techno, banging Chicago tracks and both old and new music of the past twenty five years, Marcel Dettmann communicates his message with an apparent effortlessness and skill.
Vril makes his Los Angeles debut and marks another milestone for the genre in this city. The mysterious artists has released on esteemed labels Delsin, Semantica and Giegling with more then effective results. Deep, avant garde yet straight ahead, Vril’s music add’s layers of depth and dynamic tension to many DJ’s sets. We are proud to showcase his live recreations / deconstructions of these tracks at Prototype.
Droid Behavior residents RaÃz will round out the bill. Producers and label owners Vangelis and Vidal Vargas have performed worldwide from North America to Europe to Japan. Through their connection with Drumcell they developed the label, production group and music collective Droid Behavior. Aside from curating forward thinking events such as Interface and Prime, RaÃz have released affective music on labels including Electric Deluxe, Historia Y Violencia, Droid Recordings and their own label VRV. As performers, RaÃz fully harness the capabilities of technology to create a thick blend of Detroit-influenced techno and hard, gritty house. Years of production experience inform their Live PA / Digital DJ hybrid approach, as they layer each track’s core essentials and live improvisation to craft sets into a unique and narrative arch. Their releases follow suit, drawing from their musical training and diverse influences, to shape conceptual tracks of substance.
